drcookevet.com – What’s in a Logo?
The dragonfly has long been regarded as a symbol of transformation, adaptability, and resilience. Across cultures, it represents light, change, and self-realization, qualities that mirror the mission of our nonprofit: to nurture and grow veterinary healers in all stages of their careers.
Transformation & Growth
Like the dragonfly’s metamorphosis from water to air, our mentorship, scholarships, and education programs help veterinary professionals transition into their next chapter with strength and grace.
Wisdom & Experience
Dragonflies have been around for millions of years, embodying the timeless knowledge passed from seasoned healers to the new generation of veterinary professionals.
Balance & Healing
The delicate balance of a dragonfly’s wings reflects our commitment to holistic well-being—for pets, clients, and the healers themselves—blending modern advances with time-honored veterinary practices.
Light & Hope
Just as the dragonfly’s wings catch and reflect the sunlight, our work aims to shine light on opportunities, inspire resilience, and create a lasting positive impact in our community.
The Dragonfly
Across cultures, the dragonfly is a universal symbol of transformation, resilience, and the quiet wisdom of change. For those of us in the healing professions- veterinarians, nurses, therapists, energy workers, or anyone who holds space for others- it invites us to be present, adapt, and move through uncertainty with lightness and grace.
Japan
A symbol of courage, strength, and happiness. Seen as a positive omen, associated with autumn, and bringers of joy and renewal.
Native American Traditions
A spirit guide traveling between physical and spiritual realms, representing change, illusion, and transformation—especially in emotional and spiritual growth.
Hinduism & Eastern Spirituality
Associated with moksha (spiritual liberation), mindfulness, and living in the present. Seen as a symbol of reincarnation and the soul’s journey.
Celtic & European Folklore
A mystical fae creature and shape-shifter, representing the thin veil between worlds. A reminder that appearances can be deceiving.
Isn’t this exactly what we healers represent? We are always available to help our patients, yet too often neglect ourselves—walking the Earth in pain, frustration, or mental illness, battling compassion fatigue and burnout.
Universal Dragonfly Symbolism
Dragonflies are seen as beings of light and transformation, as reminders to embrace change, live fully, adn see beyond the surface, and as encouragement to stay light, adaptable, and spiritually aware.
And if that weren’t enough—the dragonfly has flight superpowers. Each wing moves independently, allowing flight in any direction: up, down, backward, sideways, or hovering in place. They can turn on a dime and reach speeds of 30 mph.
In healthcare, many of us do the same—changing direction instantly to meet the needs of our patients.
The Circle of Healing & Five Elements
Around the dragonfly in our logo is a circle, symbolizing togetherness, continuity, and balance. Its colors are drawn from the healing palette of the Five Element Theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The head of the dragonfly is a heart—representing the union of head and heart in Chinese medicine, where the mind and emotions are deeply connected. In emotional growth, healing both as one is often the most challenging—and most essential—path to a balanced life.
The heart is lavender, a color tied to the higher consciousness of the crown chakra, symbolizing connection to divine energy and enlightenment.
A Healer's Reminder
Healing isn’t always about fixing—it’s about witnessing, allowing, and embracing change. The dragonfly reminds us to reclaim our lightness of being, nurture our resilience, and move with grace through life’s challenges.
For those of us in the healing professions, its a call to stay present, embrace transformation, and support one another in a healthy, educational, and restorative environment.
